Hybrid Car Sales fall as gas prices fall and the economy slides.

Americans have cut back on buying cars of all types as the economy continues to slide. This slowdown is even more evident in the hybrid car category. With the decline in gas prices from the $3.50 to $4.20 range down to the current $1.75 to $1.95 range the interest in hybrid cars has also fallen.

Car Sales have collapsed as consumers refuse to pay a premium for fuel-efficient vehicles:
    • Nissan Altima Hybrid down 70%
    • Ford Escape Hybrid down 39%
    • Toyota Camry Hybrid down 58%
    • Toyota Highlander Hybrid down 65%
    • Honda Civic Hybrid down 68%

We Americans have a short memory and are very fickle. Word of warning! People don’t loose the focus to save money and become less dependent on foreign oil. The country is headed for big time inflation and another wave of higher gas prices.

The Sands Casino Resort in Bethlehem has not open yet and it’s parking garage already needs repairs even before the first car has arrived. Cracks have developed in some concrete columns in the 3,500 space five story garage. A Casino spokesman said that the facility will be open on time and it will be “beyond safe” when it does open.

I never heard the phrase “beyond safe”. If you are “safe” isn’t that good enough? How can you be beyond a state of “safeness”? This is starting to sound like an Andy Rooney commentary.

I though dancing was supposed to be fun and good exercise as well. Don’t tell that to the “Dancing with the Stars” celebrity contestants. The show seems to be taking its toll on the celebrities this year. The latest casualty is Holly Madison. Holly it seems is in pain this week. She was prescribed medication for pain in the rib area from to much samba rehearsing. The ABC dance competition show is very popular but is proving to be very challenging for the stars. Oh well, I’m sure they are all troopers, remember the “Show must go on”

The Lehigh Valley loses out on the proposed “Bicycling Hall of Fame”. The Lehigh Valley was removed from consideration for the location of the “Hall of Fame” this week. Lehigh County Executive Don Cunningham had offered 8 acres of property next to the Valley Preferred Cycling Center in Trexlertown for the hall. The county could not offer a long-term financial commitment to the Hall of Fame’s relocation committee. Apparently the world renowned cycling tradition of the Velodrome was not enough to overcome the significant financial commitment proposed by the two remaining contenders, Davis California and Greensboro North Carolina.
