Cash for Clunker program fills local Car Showrooms:
The federal Cash for Clunkers program offers new car buyers that trade in their old gas guzzling cars between $3,500 and $4 500 toward the purchase of a more efficient vehicle.

What trade-ins qualify? – Any vehicle manufactured in 1984 or later that gets less than 18 miles per gallon in combined city and highway miles. The vehicle must be operable, insured and registered for at least the last year.

What new cars can you purchase in the cash for clunkers program? – Any vehicle with a list price of $45,000 or LESS that gets at least 4 miles to the gallon more than the car you are trading.

What affects your rebate in the cash for clunkers program? – The spread between your old car’s miles per gallon and the new car’s gas mileage determines the rebate. If your new car gets 4 to 10 miles per gallon more than the old car that you trade then you get $3,500. If the mileage improves by 10 mpg. or more then you get $4,500.

General Motors, after closing hundreds of dealerships, has emerged from bankruptcy last month and today has opened a virtual car lot, selling cars online through eBay. The automaker has listed 20,000 new cars on the site, with auctions beginning at 12:01 am PT last night.
