News Washington D.C. – Washington Monument closed

The Washington Monument will be closed for the next 2 years while repairs to its elevators are completed. The Park Service is in charge of the 555-foot monument.

Billionaire David Rubenstein has agreed to fund the project, it currently lacks a start date because the
Park Service wants to build a new security screening entrance at the same time and needs funding for that project.

The Park Service hopes to reopen the monument by cherry blossom season in 2019.
The monument closed in August because of ongoing problems with the elevator system.

Well, there goes my vacation plans to D.C. for this year.

Airline considering charging a “Fee to Pee” in-flight pay toilets.
Michael O’Leary, the outrageous CEO of ultra low cost European airline Ryanair, has suggested that he may start charging people to use the in-flight bathrooms.

Airline passengers are getting used to being nickel and dimed for just about every possible in-flight service that was once free, but pay toilets is taking things to a ridiculous level. We suspect that O’Leary is pulling everybody’s leg and enjoying the free press that he’s getting as a result. We might know however if he is really serious if the airline starts giving away free drinks in the hopes of filling people’s bladders. Who knows, stranger things have happened. What do you think?

I am in the market for a new car so I checked the rankings of some fuel efficient cars for 2008 based on the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) miles-per-gallon ratings for city and highway travel. The EPA has a combined fuel economy formula of 55 percent of city mpg rating plus 45 percent of highway mpg rating. The rating for each vehicle is expressed in mpg as a city / highway ratio.
